According to material in this collection, the models were made by Leander James McCormick before 1894. The series includes correspondence and other material related to Leander McCormick's donation of the original models and related materials to the University of Virginia.

Col. Robert R. McCormick relied on the staff of the Chicago Tribune Library for research in the preparation of books, articles and speeches. This extensive collection consists of his requests for information, and replies to these requests. The largest portion of these responses are signed by Librarians Mildred Burke (from 1929 to 1944) and Charles Smutny and Elston Bradfield (from 1945 to 1955).
Robert R. McCormick. Bound collections of speeches
Col. Robert R. McCormick delivered a weekly radio address over WGN, and spoke frequently on other occasions. This series consists of collections of printed versions of his addresses (including some typescripts) that have been bound into volumes. His talks cover a wide range of topics, but primarily involve his views on the United States, relations with other countries (including World War II), the Army, and the newspaper business.
Robert R. McCormick. Condolence letters to Maryland H. McCormick
Col. Robert R. McCormick (1880-1955), editor and publisher of the Chicago Tribune, died on April 1, 1955 in Wheaton, Illinois, where his estate, Cantigny, was located. His wife Maryland Mathison Hooper McCormick received many letters and telegrams of condolence after his death. Those expressions of sympathy form the basis of this collection.

McCormick: Cantigny Farm near Wheaton, Illinois, and the "experimental" farm on the Fox River west of Yorkville in Kendall County, Illinois. Most of this material is various maps and plans, but the series includes some related correspondence and other notes, and illustrations of a proposed remodeling of the house at Cantigny.
